Making My Mark: Why H.O.O.P. Exists

For as long as I can remember, basketball has brought me a sense of joy and excitement. Some of my best memories are of playing with my childhood friends on indoor and outdoor courts, laughing, competing, and soaking in the simple thrill of the game. In those moments, basketball wasn’t about status or achievement. It was simply pure fun.

As I got older, reality settled in. The window to make a mark as an elite-level player had closed. Injuries played a part, and so did the fact that I didn’t discipline myself enough in my youth when I had the chance to push further. I had to accept that my opportunity to climb to the highest levels of the sport had passed.

But even after facing that truth, the desire to impact the game never left me.

I still wanted to contribute. I still wanted to make my mark on the court in whatever way I could. That desire didn’t fade with time, it simply shifted.

And that is how Heralds of Our Passion (H.O.O.P.) came to life.
Not out of perfection.
Not out of wanting glory or praise.
But out of a genuine belief that God plants passion in all of us, and it is our responsibility to honour and pursue it.

Owning My Journey, Imperfections and All

I’m not perfect, and I won’t ever pretend to be. I’ve made mistakes, but the grace of God has taught me that He isn’t asking for perfection; He’s asking for trust.

Jesus said:

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” — John 15:18 (NIV)

Starting a faith-driven apparel brand in the basketball space comes with challenges. I expect resistance, I expect doubt and I expect moments where I question myself. But even in the uncertainty, I’m choosing obedience over the world’s approval, and faith over fear.

Because no matter what opposition comes, I’m holding onto this promise:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

The path may not be easy, but it will be purposeful.

Making My Mark Through Apparel

Even if I never made an impact as a player, I believe I can still make an impact through what I create. I want H.O.O.P. apparel to carry meaning. I want it to speak to people. I want it to remind them that their passion matters because God gave it to them.

We all have different muses.
Different motivations.
Different stories.

But we are all heralds of our passion when pursuing the things we love doing. My thing happens to be playing/watching basketball and acknowledging/giving glory to God for all He’s done in my life.

H.O.O.P. keeps me connected to the sport I love, while also pointing people back to purpose. The clothing isn’t just about style. It’s about having faith, identifying your God-given talent, and trusting the process.

Faith, Purpose, and the Court

Basketball shaped parts of me, but my faith in God is shaping the direction of my life. I’ve learned that passion doesn’t die just because your path changes; it finds new and often creative ways to emerge.

And every day, I hold onto this:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” — Romans 12:2 (NIV)

I don’t know exactly where this journey will lead, but I’m trusting God with the process, the brand, and the challenges ahead that will only make the story richer.
