Who Leads Your Steps?

“Direct my footsteps according to Your word; let no sin rule over me.”
Psalm 119:133

If it were possible, many of us would want God to reveal the entire plan ahead of us. We would want certainty about where our lives are going and reassurance that we are on the right path. But this verse reveals a different kind of prayer. The psalmist doesn’t ask for the full journey, only for God to guide his next step and guard his heart along the way.

Faith isn’t about knowing the destination. At its core, it’s trusting God enough to surrender to His will as we take the next step in obedience.

One Step at a Time

In basketball, growth starts with footwork. The small movements practiced over and over eventually shape how a player performs in big moments.

Life with God works the same way. Our character is formed through daily decisions that often feel ordinary. Choosing patience, integrity, and trust may not feel significant in the moment, but those steps quietly shape the direction of our lives.

What’s Leading You

The psalmist doesn’t just ask for guidance; he asks that sin would not rule over him. That language matters because sin isn’t presented as a mistake alone, but as something that seeks control.

Anything, if left unchecked, can begin to lead us down the wrong path. Pride, anger, comparison, comfort, or the need for approval can quietly take hold of our decisions. Like a player forcing bad shots or playing outside the game plan, we can slowly drift from how we were truly called to play the game of life.

God’s Word resets our priorities. It reminds us who leads and who we belong to. Freedom isn’t found in doing whatever we want, but in refusing to let destructive patterns take God’s place in our lives.
